Geometry in Architecture Project

Below is the information for the next project. Remember: your building must be approved by me before you begin building. Also, all dimensions of building must be 10" or under.

Geometry in Architecture Project

You will be making a replica of a building then measuring it to find its surface area and volume.  The building must be designed using 3 or more geometric figures. This project will use recycled materials and will be made to approximate the scale of the original building.

1. 3 Pictures of Buildings   (5 points)          Due 2/27
(print small in black n white or save so it can be viewed at school)

2. Building Replica   (25 points) Due 3/12
  • Use recycled materials
  • Make replica look close to scale as possible at 6”-10” in size
  • Create only the basic shape of the building
  • Be sure model is securely built (well taped, glued)

3. Measuring Building (25 points) Due 3/15
  • Find all measurements needed (see formulas for specifics)
  • Measure to the nearest ¼ inch
  • Label and list all measurements

4. Finding Surface Area and Volume (25 points) Due 3/20
  • Calculate the surface area and volume for each solid showing formulas and values substituted
  • Find the total surface area and total volume of the building
  • Display your work in a neat, easy to read format (calculator may be used, be sure to convert back to fractions)

5. Paragraph and Presentation (20 points) Due 3/23
  • Write a paragraph summarizing the purpose and process (not a step-by-step description, no first person/use of “I”)
  • Display your model. picture, paragraph, measurements, and surface area and volume in a neat, appealing way
  • Be sure everything on model is securely attached and writing easily read (labeled, neat, accurate)

Extra Credit:  (10 points) Due 3/23

Make a collage or slideshow of how buildings reflect the culture and diversity of  people.

Note:  Some class time will be given for this project. See updates on assignment board.

Proportional Drawing Project

Proportional Drawing Project

You will be creating an enlargement of a drawing using scale factor with a group of classmates.
The drawing is provided to you showing a ½ inch grid.
You will enlarge this using a scale factor determined by your group.

  1. Determine the scale factor to be used.

  1. Each person draws the new scale factor grid on a piece of blank paper in pencil using a ruler.

  1. The team cuts the drawing giving each person an equal piece.

  1. Determine what 4-5 colors will be used to color when completed drawing.

  1. Each individual draws their own section enlarged in pencil. Check it with your group or an adult.

  1. Color your portion of the enlarged drawing without consulting with your group.

  1. Recreate your design by putting all the enlarged sections together on a piece of large paper.

Due Dates:

Mid Year Study Guide Project

Mid Year Study Guide Project

Due: Wednesday  1/3/18

Over the break (or before if you are smart and take advantage of the time given in class), you need to create a quiz for another student using the Mid-Year Assessment Study Guide.  This quiz should have a problem for each of the Roman numeral A, B, C, D, E items on the guide.  There are 13 items therefore you will have 13 problems.  In addition, you are to include 2 word problems of your choice that requires writing a variable equation and solving it. This means your quiz has 15 problems (good adding, don’t you think?)

Make sure the quiz is challenging enough to provide a good review for the exam; your grade depends on it!

This will count as a project grade for you. You will need to write the quiz with no answers on one copy and have a 2nd copy of the quiz that shows your work and answers to be handed in to me.

For example, the first item is Integers.  You will go to that section in the text (p.1-19), review the information, and then make-up 2 problems for Integers.

NOTE: Write these on one paper as if it were a quiz then have a second copy (write/photocopy/print) with all the work and answers included.

Remember:    15 problems due 1/3/18     2 copies – one with answers
